Congressional Visits Day 2008

The
13th Annual SET Congressional Visits Day
On
4-5 March, some 40 U.S. IEEE members joined with like-minded members of the science, engineering and
technology (SET) community in visits to congressional
offices at the nation's Capitol complex in Washington, D.C.
Thirty-six organizations were represented at this year's
events.
Highlights from CVD
2008 included IEEE-USA President Russ Lefevre presenting the
2008 George E. Brown Jr. Science, Engineering and Technology
Leadership Award
to Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.) for his
leadership
and commitment to ensuring that the United States remains a
global leader in science and innovation, and for his key
role in securing the
passage of the America
COMPETES Act.
Participants in the
two-day event were in Washington to remind lawmakers that balanced federal investment in science,
engineering and technology is fundamental to the future of
our nation's prosperity; and effective competitiveness and
innovation policies will sustain U.S. technological
leadership and encourage the development of a skilled,
creative and competitive workforce.
IEEE members visited
the offices of members of Congress, where they met with
members and their
key staff to discuss the importance of balanced and sustained federal
investment.
