DC Fox 5 News Features Discover Engineering Family Day
19 Feb. 2010 — DC's Fox 5 News (WTTG) helped to promote Discover Engineering Family Day by broadcasting three live spots from the National Building Museum during its Friday morning broadcast. One of the three segments featured IEEE-USA's own Chris McManes, who demonstrated an activity from PBS' reality show Design Squad. Fox 5's Holly Morris also received tutorials from Design Squad host Nate Ball on a t-shirt launcher and the "reverse rappelling" Ascender.

Future City Teams Visit White House During EWeek
On Wednesday, 17 Feb., President Obama enlisted the help of Future City Competition finalists from Michigan, Florida, North Carolina and Nebraska to place a call to astronauts on the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle Endeavour congratulating them on their successful ongoing mission.

President Obama Sends Greeting to Nation's Engineers
Continuing a tradition begun with the first National Engineers Week in 1951, that of sending a greeting from the sitting President in recognition of the nation's engineers, President Obama writes:

"Never has it been more important for America's youth to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. The lessons they learn through initiatives like National Engineers Week will help them drive our economy as tomorrow's entrepreneurs, researchers, and innovators, and guide our Nation as educators, policymakers, and parents. By helping our students discover the wonder and excitement of engineering, we instill in them a love of learning and expand their curiosity and creativity, which are at the heart of innovation."

Washington, D.C. Public Radio, Metro Transit Announcements Promote EWeek Discover Engineering Family Day
IEEE-USA is sponsoring announcements on DC's public radio news station and in the capital city's Metro transit system that promote Discover Engineering Family Day, to be held at the National Building Museum in Washington on Saturday, 20 February. Discover Engineering Family Day, part of Engineers Week 2010, provides an interactive day-long program to introduce youngsters and their families to engineering principles that are encountered in everyday life. IEEE-USA's Family Day announcements were aired in January and February on WAMU 88.5 broadcasts of "Kojo's Tech Tuesday" and "Ira Flatow's Science Friday." IEEE-USA also joined with EWeek in January and February to place six dioramas promoting Family Day (see below) in Metro rail transit stations in the nation's capital. For more information, visit on EWeek's news page.
